A walk in the neighborhood

Yesterday morning we went for a walk in the neighborhood. Businesses in the state of Kerala were shut down due to a strike imposed by the CPI(M) political party who are protesting the arrest of one of their leaders. Everything in town was closed, including school.

The usually busy streets were deserted as people stayed at home for most of the day.

Here was the scene at the bus station.

And on the street.

Here is how it usually looks.

We wound our way through the dirt alleys behind the main shopping district and saw some beautiful houses.

This family came to their gate and invited us in for tea. The little girl is standing with her grandfather.

Many of the houses had beautiful decorative gates.

The foliage is thick and tropical in between the houses and in the back gardens.

There are cows in many back yards. These three were out for a walk.

It was a perfect morning.
